A classic Swiss weekend bread

It’s weekend time! We have some nice weather coming up, the first time this year that it actually gets a bit warmer and it is beginning to feel like spring might actually be coming after all this year. Time to get into the weekly Friday baking routine of making breakfast bread for the weekend.

This is a bread you could just go out and buy pretty much everywhere…not only on weekends, but in many households “the braid”, which is the literal translation of its original name, is THE bread you would find on the breakfast table on a Sunday. In some areas of Switzerland this bread is actually called “the Sunday braid”.

I used to buy our braids…before I got into baking them. Baking it myself has become a ritual for me…it’s the end of the stressful and fast moving week days and it introduces the more laid back and family oriented weekends.
